"A MUCH MORE
SURREAL REPULSION"
--THE WORLDWIDE CELLULOID MASSACRE

original Greek
title EYPIAIKH B.A. 2037 [Euridice B.A. 2037]
director: Nikos Nikolaidis
starrring Vera Tschechowa · John Moore · Niki Triantafillidi

This
debut film from director Nikos Nikolaidis is inspired by the Greek legend
of Orpheus and Euridice, the mythological tale of warrior Orpheus
who attempts to rescue his lover Euridice - now banished to the pits
of Hell with her memory erased - after she dies from a snake bite. For
this movie, Eurodice is the center of attention, as she is confined
to a never-ending terrorized existence inside strange house as she awaits
a 'transfer' or a 'rescue' or, maybe, an execution. Her
days repeat and intertwine as beautiful Euridice faces fears, hallucinations,
and memories activated by constant abuse, disorientation and bizarre
sexual gratification.
Nikos
Nikolaidis will be remembered as one of the world's great filmmakers.
Cult fans know him best for the uncompromisingly grotesque SINGAPORE
SLING, but his filmography is filled with many other masterworks
including SEE
YOU IN HELL, MY DARLING and SWEET
BUNCH. In a 2006 interview, Nikos said "EURIDICE
remains my favorite film...It is probably my best." Interestingly,
his final film ZERO
YEARS is a controversial loose remake. Sadly, Mr Nikolaidis
died from Pulmonary Edema at age 67 in September 2007.
This
special package also includes a rare short film (10 minutes)
by Nikos Nikolaidis called LACRIMAC RERUM [Tears of Things].
